Choosing the Right Outdoor Countertop
As an outdoor countertop, the most important aspect is the durability of the material. How well is the countertop going to withstand the weather conditions all year long? It just doesn’t make sense to purchase a countertop that requires major repairs every year!
We provide a wide variety of countertops made from different stones to fit the current style of your back yard or create a new one. Below are all the different types of countertop materials we provide, and their benefits:
Granite: Granite is the most used material when it comes to countertops. They’re extremely durable, highly resistant to scratching and staining, and can resist temperatures up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit. They also come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, so it is the go-to material when it comes to outdoor countertops.
Quartz: Quartz is also an option as an outdoor countertop. Because they are specially engineered, quartz countertops are super durable and come in a wide range of colors. Also, since resin is added in its structure during the formation of quartz, the only maintenance required for the countertop to last a lifetime is cleaning with soap and water! Unfortunately, due to the way quartz is made, it is prone to color changes when exposed to the sun for a long duration of time.
Marble: Marble, a product of extreme heat and pressure during a process called metamorphism, is known for featuring bright and elegant colors. Unfortunately, marble is considered one of the less durable options for a countertop. It is prone to scratches, staining, and sensitive to acidic substances.
Quartzite: Quartzite countertops are virtually indestructible, with rich colors and eye-catching patterns. Although hard to come by and more expensive, pure quartzite is even stronger and durable. Impure quartzite, however, are prone to staining and degradation, and require annual sealant for long-term durability. Regardless, it is an excellent choice for an outdoor countertop.
Soapstone: While highly resistance to staining and high temperatures, soapstone is prone to scratches, and considered less durable than granite or quartz. Luckily, scratches can be easily refinished by sanding out the area. With proper sealing and oiling of the stone, soapstone is a viable choice as an outdoor countertop.
